The spirits of slaves are believed to dwell in some Jamaican cotton tree. These spirits -known locally as duppies-are the stuff of mythical tales of possession and hauntings.

...Born in a close knit community named Lionel Town, bordering on the world famous sugar producing "Money MuskEstates" in the parish of Clarendon,Jamaica, Kippax was passionate about drawing from an early age, drawing countless portraits on slate, of his paternal grand uncle, Uncle Joe, underneath the family guinep tree. "Send the boy to draw my picture,"he would often say to my grandmother, his sister, Kippax remembers. Kippax won an academic scholarship to the prestigious Kingston College in Jamaica's capital city, but passionately pursued his love of drawing when he arrive in New York. ...
